  • 19th January » Snow falls in Miami, Florida. This is the only time in the History of Miami named history of the city that snow has fallen. It also fell in the Bahamas.
  • 21st January » President of the United States Jimmy Carter pardons nearly all United States or American Vietnam War draft evaders, some of whom had emigrated to Canada.

  • 27th March » Tenerife airport disaster: Two Boeing 747 airliners collide on a foggy runway on Tenerife in the Canary Islands, killing 583 (all 248 on KLM and 335 on Pan Am). Sixty-one survived on the Pan Am flight. This is the worst aviation accident in history.
